Mulch and Feed your Gardens for Free
today’s throwaway society, there is absolutely no reason to go out and purchase mulch material for your garden, unless it is for the special aesthetics, “The Look” to the mulch.
Did you know that there are a number of mulching materials that you can from around your own community who receive free, some of which even still, you come for nothing as well.
Impossible you might say. Well, I mulch my gardens quite strong, and I never pay a cent for the mulch. In fact, much of the mulch is often delivered to my house for free. As the former owners are only too happy to see her back, as they cost money, time and effort to get rid of other ways to find it.
I also have these outside sources of mulch combined with my own compost, weeds and other organic fabrics to achieve a great result in my garden, mixed, and so whatever it costs me is time and effort.
So what am I saying? While some of the below list is free, provided other things I suppose themselves, depending on time, circumstances, etc. are important
Clippings from other people in the area or from lawn mowing contractor.
Wood chips from local wood turner and wood carver, (Do not use shavings from treated wood).
Small amounts of solid from friends to fill the excavations. This is to help increase the beds in my heavy clay soil.
Light prunings from shrubs, which is shredded by me or the commissioning Garden
whole
Heavier sticks and logs, in the trellis, garden stakes, garden edges, seats, frames, planters turned to register, etc., while they decay slowly.
Newspapers, cardboard, non-rubber carpet underlay and even carpets and carpet tiles. What is put under other mulch to prevent grass and weed regrowth
Animal manures mixed with straw, sometimes from places like racetracks and Showgrounds, Pony Club, riding etc. I can be contacted in advance to see well if available.
To this I have my own weed, throwing away some of which can still be a potential problem, or burying them under the bottom layer of mulch to stop them regrowing.
Another point I add any old potting mix from dead plants or for potting plants.
As a lazy gardener, I throw the material around a bit at a time when they are available and allow nature to mix for me. On a couple of times I have received a bit too much sawdust, so that this path was material between some of the beds with a heavy underlay of newspapers. People tell me that he sees and feels good underfoot.
Never use a large amount of fresh manure on any garden, as it burned around each plant. Be extremely economical or let it age for a few months before applying it to the garden.
I live in my new house for over 15 months, and the mulch in my garden (no gardens were originally), is about 10 cm or 4 cm deep. None of which I have paid little and I even had to pick up for me.
People are even how fast the plants in my garden in the local heavy black clay soils grow commentary, and they are surprised when I tell them that I never bothered to fertilize the plants. The reason is that the earliest laid mulch, is now broken down into plant nutrients and is now feeding my plants as a plant nutrient soup through the soil life that has sudden work in my garden.
Another advantage that started to appear in recent months, the arrival of the insect-eating animals in my garden. Predatory insects and birds are now visiting my gardens on a regular basis, I find no time last year. Bees and butterflies are also the starting point for many of the plants that have come into bloom for the first time this year to visit.
So what can you do to start tracking your delivery free mulch, here are a number of proposals.
Put a small sign near your door, something needed along the lines of ‘Bio-Mulch “or” Lawn Clipping wanted. “There are certainly a number of local people who are currently throwing them away to be in your community or even local area. Do not mulch with grass only when it is not an impenetrable layer, the air and the water to the form. Again mix it with other things to “roofing” to stop, like a roof above the ground.
See if you can get in contact with the local population, in turning and carving, or even local sawmills. And come to some arrangement about preserved wood chips.
Check your local phone book for local show grounds / tracks / stables, etc. to figure out whether to give a solid waste or manure, for people who have picked up
In other words, begin to speak, to the place you’re after mulching materials, and they will soon start to come.
The only caution with using other peoples waste material, the chance that you could also import other peoples pests and weeds. Rarely have I found it a problem because of the heavy mulch to mulch routines. But it is possible.
One point is that when you first start the application mulch for your garden you can see some nitrogen deficiencies occur in some plants. This is because the organisms are reducing the mulch material to use all resources available to it during the first breakdown. Do you offer after this time the old compost more than enough nitrogen for future processes become.
Another thing to be careful, not to bury or mulch against the trunks of the plants did, because it can cause further problems for your plants to rot at the collar of the tribes.
So get out there and talk to the community, find the contacts, believe it or not they are as grateful as you solve their specific problems of waste reduction. And that, you can start some new friends out of business, I know I have.
